A Constitution Subverted

The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union officially became the nation’s first constitution on March 1, 1781. It established the fundamental laws of the nation and “a firm league of friendship” among the states. Unfortunately, it took an armed insurrection starting in 1786 to expose the inadequacies of the document and the United States government was in danger of collapse. (Does this sound familiar?) The Articles of Confederation would only survive eight years before being replaced by our current constitution.

The Constitution of the United States of America became the supreme law of the nation on March 9, 1789. The preamble declares that We the People have ordained and established the Constitution for six purposes:

  1. to form a more perfect Union,
  2. to establish Justice,
  3. to insure domestic Tranquility,
  4. to provide for the common defense,
  5. to promote the general Welfare, and
  6. to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.

The Constitution of the United States has remained in effect for the past 233 years. But in the waning years of the first quarter of the twenty-first century, it is under dangerous assault. Absent a significant intervention, there is no reason to suspect it will survive much longer. The Constitution has gradually been corrupted and subverted by unprincipled public officials who represent the two major political parties and covet power for themselves and their party instead of honorably serving the People they are supposed to represent.

To prove this, let the following facts be submitted to the People:

  1. Partisan public officials cunningly divide the Union through electoral manipulation, and maliciously divide the People through the weaponization of deception, lies, and disinformation campaigns, all designed for the purpose of acquiring and retaining their power.
  2. Partisan public officials corruptly pervert Justice through cunning legislative and judicial manipulation.
  3. Partisan public officials flagrantly sabotage domestic Tranquility by stoking toxic anger, fear, hatred, bigotry, racism, supremacy, demonization, dehumanization, and even inciting violence among the People, as well as inciting and supporting an insurrection against the United States in furtherance of an attempted coup to nullify the votes of the People and steal power from the other party.
  4. Partisan public officials shamelessly neglect and weaken the common defence of the Union from existential threats to American democracy, foreign and domestic disinformation campaigns, and dark money in politics, as well as the common defence of the People from the sale of weapons of war to domestic terrorists who plan to kill school children and other human beings for sport, the sale of over-prescribed and unprescribed drugs to the vulnerable, illegal immigration to the United States, not to mention our nation’s overdependence on foreign oil and failure to mitigate the effects of global warming by replacing fossil fuels with cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy.
  5. Partisan public officials promote the Welfare of the wealthy through absurd tax breaks and the lies of trickle-down economics, and then promote the Welfare of the disadvantaged through cash assistance that keeps them dependent upon the government for more cash assistance instead of helping them earn a dignified and self-sustaining living wage – and then stick the working people trying to make a decent living with all the bills.
  6. Partisan public officials brazenly usurp the People’s power for themselves by exploiting the weaknesses in our Constitution and then they usurp the Blessings of Liberty for our Posterity and Future Generations by exploiting those same weaknesses to remain in a state of perpetual power.

Thus, public officials from both political parties, through their actions and through their inactions, have literally betrayed the very purposes of the Constitution of the United States. By failing to support and defend those purposes, they have violated the public trust and their oath of office. In short, partisan public officials have shown contempt for the Constitution and the People they are supposed to represent. Not only have the two parties soiled the very document that has allowed them to attain their power, but they have also corrupted and subverted it to retain that power.

It is now painfully obvious for the entire world to bear witness that the Constitution of the United States is grossly inadequate to meet the needs of today’s American society. The time has now come for the People to modernize Our Constitution – or even replace it – to Create a New American Government that Benefits and Improves the Lives of All the People for the 21st Century and Beyond.
